Celebrate America's first hosting of the World Equestrian Games with the Lexington Public Library! This exhibit's fifty-piece tribute to our planet's horse-lovers will also include a special eight-piece set representing the eight disciplines of the Games - and be sure to pick up the library's free horse-themed bibliography for the young and young-at-heart horse-lovers. Events include:* September 17, 5-8 pm: City-Wide Gallery Hop! The Lexington Public is participating in Horse Play, a city-wide display of decorated horse sculptures, through October.
September 15: Angel Animals "Inspiring Stories of Animals Who Comfort and Heal Children" True Story Contest Deadline
The Angel Animals Network 2010 True Story Contest is now accepting submissions of stories about animals helping children, parents, and families deal with chronically difficult situations and circumstances or temporary tough periods in a child's life. Richland Library visitors are invited to take a photo of a horse close to their heart and bring a copy of the photo - no originals, please! - to the library for the "Loved and Legendary Richland Horses" photo contest that will accompany the 25-piece Literary Horse exhibit. (Winners will be announced on November 29.) While you're there, explore the display on Richland's horse history, comb through the trunk of tack and equipment on loan from Richland residents, and take a peek at The Literary Horse equestrian antiques.
